Redacted body camera footage released by TMZ shows the immediate aftermath of a suicide attempt at Perez Hilton’s residence in August. The video captures emergency crews treating the media personality, who was hospitalized with broken bones and an overdose, while his family manages custody arrangements for their children.
The footage, obtained by the outlet, depicts first responders attending to Hilton inside his home before placing him on a stretcher and transporting him to an ambulance. While much of the video is obscured with blur to protect privacy, blood is visible on the walls as emergency personnel work at the scene.
Hilton was taken to a hospital where he received treatment for multiple broken bones and an overdose. He was subsequently placed on a psychiatric hold. It was later confirmed that his children were present in the home just moments before the incident began.
Hilton’s sister, Barbara Lavandeira, stated she discovered him covered in blood and said she barely recognized him upon seeing him. According to police documents, Hilton told officers during the incident that he wanted to die by suicide.
Hilton’s mother, Teresita Lavandeira, has taken on the responsibility of caring for his children. Hilton has spent time with his kids during recent supervised visits. A friend has also launched a GoFundMe campaign to help cover the family's expenses.
